Gina, I need to tell you something...

A wonderful reader asked the following:

"Gina, how do those of us who have loved your words get to let you know we are still thinking of you? Should we keep writing new comments on old posts?"

So, dear and wonderful readers, please feel free to leave and thoughts, questions, ideas, etc. as a comment to this post.

Love,
Gina

    1. I'm so glad that Gina has joined John Dewey among the eminences that Reconstructionist rabbis read while wearing tallis and tefillin. (Though I personally read without specific Jew-wear.) Thanks, Daniel! And love to you, Gina, and to your dear spouse! - Jeremy

  5. Gina, your blog has touched me beyond words. I have read your posts out loud to my husband, my dad and my teen daughter; and I have also shared some posts with friends. I truly feel that these posts should be turned into a book. You are so gifted--not only with incredible writing skills--but also with such a warm, thoughtful, creative and humorous way of viewing the world. I do hope you will continue to post if the moment feels right. I will keep checking!

  12. Thank you! You were on my mind this weekend and I was going to drop you an email, but decided to check back and see if there was any additional post here. Like others, I have very much appreciated the chance to read your wise and honest words here. I'm missing you as we plan for the summer. I keep thinking, what would Gina say/do/think about this...

I was never in your class myself, but you had my older sister, Hannah, at one point. You are a wonderful teacher, writer and role model. We are both thinking of you and sending well wishes.

  28. Wait a minute…I miss a month on the blog and you've been allowed to step down from your post (LOL!! That would be a pun, right?….who would I ask that of if you don't respond :-)) You've got plenty to say young lady and I for one need to hear it. What about this whole Trump possibly being our next president…wait that may be pushing you in the wrong direction :-) Or some ignorant comment you've heard from a less than thoughtful person….Oh and our Chicago tour ala Gina Fried. I haven't forgotten…..isn't opening day coming up soon. Where are we seating in Wrigley Field? Then where are we going for pizza (deep dish of course)? Where must we grab breakfast? Do you see my dilemma??? I'm going to email you missy….I will not be ignored. I blame you for being so fabulous that I simply can't let you put down the pen….keyboard….you know what I'm trying to say…..I await your response

  30. Gina and Toba, I have never commented until now because, following Gina's own wisdom, I never really anything to say. But I always did have THANK YOU to say. Thank you for your wisdom and your humor and sharing your way of seeing the world and your gorgeous way of putting that all into words.

    Sending love and light.
    Love, Rif

  32. Ms. Fried (I don't know if I can call you Gina because I still think of you as my teacher... I suppose it is possible to call one's teacher by their first name, but I guess I'm a creature of habit),

Ms. Fried, I need to tell you something... Thank you for caring about different perspectives and diversity and for encouraging us to learn about them ourselves. Thank you for being honest and open. Thank you for caring about your students. Thank you for your extra time that you gave to me (and countless others) outside the classroom. And despite the fact you had very little say in the matter, thank you for being my teacher.

    Anna

  33. I just checked your blog, even though I knew from Toba's email that there wouldn't be a new post waiting. Still, I had to check. I loved getting to know you through your writing. I am holding you and your wonderful spouse Toba, your children and your family in the light and wishing you every possible comfort in this time.
    With blessing,

  36. Gina, I met you years ago at CDT High Holiday services. I recall being struck by your presence, your positive energy and genuine smile. I am reconnecting now through your blog. While I regret missing out on knowing you all these years, I am thankful for this chance to know you now. I will seek out orange flowers and not get too angry with the squirrels. But most of all I will try to look for the light! Thank you for this gift.

  37. Ms. Fried,

I am so glad to have met and known you if even for that short time when I was in your class. You were funny, intelligent, serious, and understanding. We were brought together by your humor and how you taught. You were the best teacher I have ever had and I hope you are kicking it with rainbows and puppies up there wherever you are. You made such a positive impact and taught me so much in those few short months. I appreciate everything you have ever done and am so lucky to have experienced the Gina experience.
RIP We will always love you

  38. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. I am only encountering your words after you have left this world. I am heart broken, and sending deep love to your kids, your partner, your students and your friends. Your clarity and consciousness are ever-present. Your life is, was, will be a blessing. Lechi B'Shalom.

  39. Dear Ms. Fried,

I just learned about this and it breaks my heart to not have had one more chance to tell you how much you changed my world view! Thank you for being that teacher that opened my eyes to taking chances when reflecting and acknowledging every voice/perspective. I think back often to the experiences I had in your classroom and working through your edits on my essays challenging me to think critically and find MY voice--not what others might want to hear. I learned of your passing away in a place that I think you would have been so proud of me to be at. I was in a small jazz club in NYC, where unknown artists can share their music to an open minded crowd. Thanks for pushing me to appreciate the world beyond my love of math/science and seeing the beautiful in other fields.

    Much love,
    C^2
